Living Out Our Calling

Living Out Our Calling

On March 2, 2022 the season of Lent will begin with Ash Wednesday.  Lent is a 40-day season in which Christians focus on discipleship: we recommit ourselves to living in God’s way.   Thus, Lent involves a renewed effort to listen and to engage, that we might more faithfully live out our calling as God’s beloved children.

Listening

Listening is perhaps best described as paying attention.  We pay attention to God and to God’s world. Traditionally we have done so through more regular bible study, prayer and fasting.  These are valuable practices and I would encourage you to embrace them but you might also benefit from regular walks in the beauty of God’s creation or time spent enjoying the company of others.  However you choose to spend the 40 days of Lent, be intentional in your desire to hear the “still, small voice” of God.

Engage

Just as important as listening to God, is action in response to God’s call.  Traditionally, Christians increase their alms-giving during Lent: we give more to charity.  Generosity is not limited to money of course but includes generosity in sharing both your time and your gifts.  How might you be good stewards of the gifts God has given you?

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing resources and suggestions for how you might listen and engage this Lent.

Yours in Christ,

Paddy
