SERVING AND LEARNING

HPC is involved in ministries both within our local community and farther afield:

    IN OUR CONGREGATION

  • Sunday Morning Worship and Sunday School take place at HPC at l0:00 a.m. every Sunday.
  • Evening Services are held on the last Sunday of the months October through May (excluding December) at 6:30 p.m.
  • Study Groups currently include a Wednesday afternoon Bible study and a Thursday afternoon and  evening Bible study.
  • A twelve-week Alpha course is usually offered at HPC twice a year. The course is based on the renowned video series by Rev. Nicky Gumbel and features food, fellowship and a discussion following the video presentation. Contact: Maynard Embree for further details.
  • Bethel - This study involves a series of six, seven-week modules. It normally takes two years to complete the six modules and provides an overview of the Old and New Testament.
  • Prayer Groups - A pre-service Prayer Time is held on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the minister's Study. This is in preparation and support of the worship service and the life and work of our church family. A Prayer Group meets on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. for half an hour in the church library.
  • Telephone Prayer Chain – Individuals pray for specific needs. Contact Lorraine Cornish for further details.
  • The Manna Cell provides meals for people in the congregation who have been bereaved or are recuperating from serious illness or surgery. Contact the church office for further information.
  • Church Library - The Haney Presbyterian Church Library, housed in the conference room at the church contains an ever-growing collection of Christian fiction and non-fiction books, magazines and videos for adults and children.
  • Written publications available through HPC include the "Presbyterian Record" national church magazine, "Today" personal devotional resource booklet, and the "Presbyterian Prayer Partnership" daily prayer guide.

    IN OUR COMMUNITY

  • Baillie House - One Sunday per month, at 2.00p.m., members of the congregation conduct a music and worship service at Baillie House, an Extended Care Unit at Ridge Meadows Hospital.
  • Vacation Bible School - One week in August, VBS is run for HPC children and youth, as well as other children in the surrounding community. The program includes music and singing, bible lessons, crafts, games and lots of food and fun. Parents are invited to attend the Youth Worship Service the following Sunday when the children sing the songs they have learned, and achievements are acknowledged.
  • Salvation Army (Maple Ridge) - We provide financial support and monthly dinners to assist in the Army's outreach to the needy in our community.
  • WomanCare - The congregation supports WomanCare, a crisis pregnancy and counselling centre in Maple Ridge. Cherilyn Toll is Director of this ministry and can be contacted for further details.

    IN THE WORLD

  • Cariboo House Church Ministry - A program of Presbyterian house churches in the interior Cariboo region of British Columbia. This ministry is supported financially by our congregation and others throughout the Synod of BC. Visit the Cariboo Presbyterian Church website
  • Through Presbyterian World Service and Development we contribute funds for disaster relief as well as to support projects in developing countries.
  • Sunday School Challenge: Healthy Babies Happy Moms - Our Sunday School and the Friday night youth groups are once again joining the Presbyterian World Service and Development Sunday School Challenge. Presbyterian children and youth across Canada are collecting money, this year to support maternal health care in the developing world. We will be giving our offerings as well as fundraising to reach out to vulnerable mothers and children to help increase the likelihood of safe deliveries and effective early childhood care.
  • Nicaragua Missions Project - We have been sending funds which are used by the Christian Youth Association of Nicaragua to provide scholarships for young people, allowing them to pursue vocational and other educational opportunities.
  • Swaziland Mission Project - Funds were sent to Swaziland to pay for the installation of two water tanks at the Ezulwini Primary School, bringing a reliable supply of clean water to the school's 600 pupils and staff. Funds also put a roof over the school's outdoor cooking facility so the staff could more readily prepare the midday meal of maize, which in many cases is the only meal the students receive in a day. Support for this project ended in 2012.
  • Mercy Touch Mission International - In 2013 we began supporting the Mercy Touch ministry to orphaned and needy children in Zambia.
  • Our gifts to "Presbyterians Sharing" help support the work of the Presbyterian Church in Canada and throughout the world. (see sidebar -> )

Presbyterians Sharing...

Through Presbyterians Sharing we are making a difference in Canada and around the world. Our gifts help create, sustain and renew congregations in Canada. Together we support inner-city, native, refugee, urban, remote and chaplaincy ministries.

We equip church leaders for Christian education, worship, evangelism, mission, stewardship, youth ministries and justice work.

We train ministers and lay leaders through our theological colleges. We recruit and send mission personnel to serve our partners around the world, facilitate exchange visits and work with other churches in ecumenical partnerships.

Together we speak on issues important to us at national and international forums.

Through Presbyterians Sharing, we make mission and ministry happen!
